Funded by the Lion Foundation and Dulux
Every year, kea in Arthurs Pass are injured or killed whilst interacting with people or their property. Making people aware of these threats to kea is therefore imperative for this populations survival.
New signs will be erected in January 2014 at the Viaduct Lookout (Arthurs Pass western entry) and Klondyke Corner (eastern entry). Both areas have had injured or dead kea recovered from them.
The signs aim to increase awareness of our unique our curious mountain parrot is, the threats they face and how people can make small changes in behaviour to protect kea and prevent conflict situations arising.
Thanks to our funders (the Lion Foundation and Dulux), Department of Conservation (Arthurs Pass and Rangiora), Transpower and photographers Mat Goodman and Corey Mosen.
